Selection Process

Initial Contact

  • Contact is initiated by phone or in person, or you can contact us via our website, and we will call get in touch with you.
  • Basic information including homeowner and contact names, address, telephone numbers, and a description of the problem is gathered.
  • During the initial discussion, some projects may be rejected, for reasons such as the home being outside of Berkeley County, or the repairs are outside our scope of work.

Site Visit

  • A Site visit is scheduled whereby an evaluation team visits with the individual/family to ascertain the scope of the problem(s) and the criticality of the need.  The evaluation team takes pictures and notes.
  • Site visits are typically conducted one day per month, but may be conducted at other times due to emergencies or for the convenience of the evaluators.
  • Upon completion of the site visits, the information and pictures is entered into our databases.

Project Selection & Planning

  • Projects are selected from the waiting list, and homeowners are contacted to verify availability.
  • Work is prioritized and scheduled.  Most projects are completed the second Saturday of each month.  If the project is a wheelchair ramp, posts and side rails are generally installed several days prior.
  • Site leaders are provided with the details and pictures of the project, materials are gathered and teams are planned.

Project Completion

  • On the designated work day, teams generally arrive around 8:00am and work until early afternoon.  Work may be continued from one month to the next month(s) for larger projects.
